Founded
in 1920, Lötscher Ltd. is the only genuine Swiss brand of cuckoo
clocks in existence today. Lötscher operates two facilities in
different parts of Switzerland which have specific duties in the
manufacturing of the finished clocks. All of the initial steps involved
in building the clocks are done in the woodworking facility in Brienz.
All of the clocks are handmade, hand carved and hand assembled using
aged linden wood.

The making of these clocks is really an art form and the intricate details visible on most of the clocks are remarkable.
Yet even with all the details, one is amazed to realize how sturdy and well built these gems actually are.
The charming little chalet is truly a bit of Switzerland, calling to
mind the sound of tinkling bells, melodious Alphorns and even
Grandma’s cosy kitchen, where the cuckoo on the wall sang forth
the hours and captured nostalgic moments forever.
Production in Brienz
- Our
cuckoo clocks are made of linden wood. We keep the wood for three years
to dry it naturally. This way of drying the wood is the only way to
guarantee that the wood doesn’t crack any more in humid or dry
air.
- This
is the most costly way to manufacture clocks, but it’s what
separates Loetscher clocks from others available from other countries.
- Geraniums are made out of sand from the lake of Brienz and the stones are collected in the mountains of the region.
- There are two typical types of chalets in Switzerland which are very famous: the Brienzer and the Emmenthaler.
Production in Zürich
- Here we assemble cuckoo clocks with dancing figurines, waterwheel, animals and the cuckoo sound.
- Cuckoo
clocks with music are equipped with the most refined swiss music
movements which plays two melodies, one on half hour and one on the
full hour.
- The mechanical movement is a chain-driven in one day or eight days with cuckoo-call and gongstrike every half and full hour.
- All cuckoo clocks are adjusted and checked for at least three days before leaving our factory.
